Juneteenth Caribbean Heritage Walkathon

St. Louis, MO – ART 2063 is proud to welcome Mayor Tishaura Jones as the Honorary Chair for the inaugural Juneteenth Caribbean Heritage Walkathon: A Long Journey to Equal Citizenship.

This event, which is a first for the city of St. Louis, will take place on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Forest Park, 5595 Grand Drive. Anticipated to host four sets of 250 walkers, from 7 am – 3 pm. In addition to walking, participants will connect with community partners and receive an array of resource materials. The Walkathon will raise awareness regarding Juneteenth, Caribbean heritage, the impact of the Emancipation Proclamation, 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution for all citizens.

Honorary Chair, Mayor Jones will be an inaugural part of bringing awareness to these important educational issues for the city and nation, making another historical mark. Recently sworn in as the 47th mayor and the first African American female mayor in the City’s history on April 20, 2021, she continues to make strides, creating landmarks while opening the doors of education to all.

Since 2012, Tishaura O. Jones has helped the City of St. Louis earn and save over $30 million and counting. Her reputation of transparency, integrity, and service has not only defined her as a public servant, but a dedicated citizen of the city of St. Louis.

With a deep personal commitment, a wealth of experience, and a proven record of leadership, Jones started her career as a public servant in 2002 when she was appointed as Democratic Committeewoman of the eighth Ward in the City of St. Louis. A history-maker on a mission, she served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was selected as the first African American woman in Missouri history to hold the position of Assistant Minority Floor Leader. She also is the first African American woman to serve as Treasurer of St. Louis.

From public service, to private support, Mayor Jones continues to raise the banner of excellence, open doors and educate so that future generations can have a path to walk into.
