(Black PR Wire) ST. LOUIS, MO – Africans Rising Together 2063 (ART 2063) is pleased to announce the selection of honorary chairs for its annual Walkathon commemorating Juneteenth and National Caribbean Heritage Month. They symbolize the pivotal role of African Americans in the historical and contemporary defense of democracy and justice.
ART 2063 will honor Missouri’s U.S. Congresswoman Cori Bush as the Mother of Democracy and St. Louis City’s first African American female Circuit Attorney, Kim Gardner, as Mother of Justice.
Dr. James Tucker, President of Africans Rising Together 2063, said, “We are privileged to have such distinguished leaders as our honorary chairs. Each co-chair has a solid record of achievements in their respective fields, grassroots credibility, and a proven commitment to advancing democracy, justice, and equality for all people.”
The Juneteenth Walkathon will take place at Forest Park, Cricket Field in St. Louis, Missouri, on Saturday, June 18, 2022. The time of the 1K and 5K Walks 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., and then from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., there will be festivities and entertainment, including a children’s village, including Gospel music, Soul and African food, and a variety of vendors. There will also be a Noon Day Prayer for People of African Descent and a Walk Through History featuring outstanding African Americans and Caribbean Americans who have made the United States more innovative and prosperous.
The commemoration of Juneteenth is the result of the work begun by the late Dr. Ronald V. Myers Sr, MD, which culminated in Juneteenth National Independence Day becoming a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. The ART 2063’s event provides a unique opportunity for the local community to learn about and acknowledge the many achievements of people of African descent who have contributed significantly to this nation’s development and wealth.
There is still time for participants to join by registering at Eventbrite Registration, www.ART2063.org, or onsite for $18.65. Seniors 55 and older and children 12 and under register for free. Everyone must register to participate in the Juneteenth Caribbean Walkathon.
